Student Learning Expectations in Action: Celebrating the Values That Shape Our School Community

Students recognized for exemplifying St. Victor School's Student Learning Expectations stand with their certificates during the trimester awards ceremony. The awards honor students who demonstrate the qualities of Child of Faith, Lifelong Learner, and Caring & Responsible Citizen.
Each trimester, St. Victor School celebrates students who exemplify our Student Learning Expectations: Child of Faith, Lifelong Learner, and Caring & Responsible Citizen. While these students were selected for special recognition, the ceremony also serves as a reminder that these values are reflected throughout our entire school community every day.

At the end of each trimester, St. Victor School gathers to recognize students who exemplify our Student Learning Expectations: Child of Faith, Lifelong Learner, and Caring & Responsible Citizen.

These awards are a meaningful opportunity to celebrate students who consistently model the values we hope to nurture in every child. Yet one of the most memorable moments of this trimester's ceremony came from a reminder shared by our 7th grade teacher.

Selecting award recipients is never easy.

Not because there are too few deserving students, but because there are so many.

Every day, teachers witness acts of kindness, perseverance, leadership, faith, and service throughout our campus. While only one student per class can be recognized in each category during a trimester, every St. Victor student demonstrates these qualities in different ways throughout the school year.

The award recipients serve as inspiring examples, but the Student Learning Expectations belong to our entire school community.

What Are Student Learning Expectations?

At St. Victor School, our Student Learning Expectations provide a shared vision for who we hope our students become during their years with us.

We strive to develop students who are:

  • Children of Faith who live with compassion, integrity, and purpose.

  • Lifelong Learners who approach challenges with curiosity and perseverance.

  • Caring & Responsible Citizens who contribute positively to their communities.

These Student Learning Expectations help guide our classrooms, our school traditions, and our relationships with one another. They remind us that education is about more than academic achievement. It is also about helping students develop strong character, meaningful faith, and a sense of responsibility to others.

Recognizing Students Who Live the Student Learning Expectations

The trimester awards provide an opportunity to celebrate students who consistently embody these values.

For teachers, however, selecting recipients can be one of the most difficult parts of the process.

Throughout the trimester, they see students helping classmates who are struggling, welcoming new students, working through challenges with determination, leading by example, and demonstrating kindness when no one is watching. They witness students who approach learning with enthusiasm and students who quietly serve others without seeking recognition.

Many of these moments never appear on a report card.

Yet they are often the moments that best reflect the Student Learning Expectations.

The students recognized during the ceremony deserve to be celebrated, but they also represent something larger: the culture of faith, learning, and service that exists throughout our school community.

Child of Faith: Living What We Believe

Being a Child of Faith means more than participating in religion class or attending school Mass.

It means learning to see the dignity and value in every person. It means showing compassion, extending forgiveness, and choosing kindness even when it is difficult.

Throughout the school year, students participate in prayer services, Masses, faith formation, and service opportunities. More importantly, they learn how faith can guide their everyday actions and decisions.

Whether it is helping a classmate, comforting a friend, or serving others in the community, students learn that faith is something we live, not simply something we learn about.

Lifelong Learner: Embracing Growth

A Lifelong Learner is not defined solely by grades or academic success. Instead, lifelong learning is rooted in curiosity, resilience, and a willingness to grow.

At St. Victor School, students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, take risks, and learn from mistakes. They discover that challenges are opportunities for growth and that perseverance is often just as important as achievement.

From preschool through eighth grade, students develop habits that prepare them not only for their next grade level but for a lifetime of learning.

Caring & Responsible Citizen: Making a Difference

The third pillar of our Student Learning Expectations focuses on helping students understand their role within the larger community.

Students learn that leadership is not always about holding a title or standing in front of a crowd. Often, leadership is demonstrated through everyday choices.

Respecting others. Taking responsibility for actions. Including someone who feels left out. Serving the school, parish, and broader community.

These moments help students understand that their actions matter and that each person has the ability to make a positive difference.

Building a Strong School Community

One reason the Student Learning Expectations are so important is because they help create the kind of school community where students are known, supported, and excited to learn every day.

When students strive to be Children of Faith, Lifelong Learners, and Caring & Responsible Citizens, everyone benefits.

Classrooms become places where students encourage one another. Friendships are strengthened through empathy and respect. Teachers and families work together to help children grow into confident, capable young people.

The Student Learning Expectations provide a common foundation that unites our entire community around shared values and goals.

A Celebration of Every Student

Perhaps that is why the reminder from our 7th grade teacher resonated so strongly during the ceremony.

While a few students receive awards each trimester, the qualities being celebrated can be found throughout the school.

Every student has moments of kindness. Every student faces challenges and learns from them. Every student has opportunities to grow in faith, learning, and service.

The Student Learning Expectations are not standards achieved by a select few. They are values that guide all of us as we continue growing together.

As we celebrate this trimester's recipients, we also celebrate the countless ways students across our campus live out these expectations every day.

Through faith, learning, and service, they continue to bring our motto to life: Charger Today. Leader Tomorrow. Christ Always.
